About Us

Gujarat is located in the western coastal region of India. Gandhinagar is the capital city of Gujarat and Ahmedabad is the state’s largest city. Gujarati is the official language of the state.

WHEN AND HOW WE STARTED

The Akshaya Patra Foundation was set up in Gujarat with its first kitchen in Gandhinagar in June 2007. The reach of the programme was extended with a second kitchen in Vadodara during November 2009, and the in Surat during June 2012.
Sensing the need for upgrading the first kitchen, the Gandhinagar Kitchen was recently replaced by the centralised kitchen in Ahmedabad. Inaugurated in August 2014 this unit is among the largest kitchens in India. The organisation in Gujarat now reaches over 400,000 children.

Being one of the largest in India, this kitchen can produce up to 200,000 meals in five hours. There are 44 custom-made meal distribution vehicles to deliver the cooked mid-day meals to the beneficiary schools.
